This site is in the process of migration. Much of the content is being transferred over to the new OutHistory.org website of the Center for Lesbain and Gay Studies (CLAGS) of the City University of New York. The remaining content will be moved to our new MediaWiki format, that you can preview here:
As to date, this website is pretty much a one-person operation, this will take time. Volunteers to assist would be welcomed. We are currently seeking grants in order to facilitate our transition and to fund the posting of our historic collection of LGBT materials.
Our website currently features:
Fiction by Joseph Hansen
Biographical profiles of Los Angeles pioneers such as Dale Jennings, Don Slater, Billy Glover, and Jim Schneider.
A timeline of significant events in the history of the homosexual rights movement in Los Angeles.
The Tangent Group is an independent nonprofit organization devoted to a continuing inquiry into the nature, circumstances, and social issues of homosexuality.
Our corporate entity is the Homosexual Information Center, established in 1965 by a majority of the legally elected board members of ONE, Incorporated and founded in Los Angeles, California in 1968 by Don Slater, “Antonio Sanchez,” Billy Glover, and Jim Schneider.
According to our Articles of Incorporation, our objective is clarification and eventual settlement of the issues surrounding homosexual persons and behavior.
Our procedure is to generate, gather, organize, make available, and broadcast ideas between and among homosexual and non-homosexual people regarding the facts and opinions regarding human sexuality.
If you would like to be a part of the continuing work of the Tangent Group and would like to receive the group’s newsletters and internal communications, then you are invited to become a supporter.
Your donation will ensure that the policy of free distribution of Tangents’ message to those who can best use the material, such as legislators, law enforcement officials, libraries, and educators, can be continued.
Please join our endeavor to secure social equality for all persons regardless of sexual orientation and to preserve the history and heritage of those people so that they in turn can best contribute to the vitality of a healthy society.
