I want to say that I agree 100% with your thoughts expressed in a recent column you wrote that appeared in my local Gannett paper The Times (Shreveport, 10-21-07).
It is rather queer that some extremists in the “gays” movement who can’t find time, energy or money to work for their cause, find the time to picket what few groups and people who do work for equal/civil rights for homosexuals. I have heard no reports of these people picketing the religious extremists who are the real enemies of everyone’s civil rights.
As Frank says, it is the extremists who claim to be so pure that they can not compromise that make it hard for America to keep being the best hope of humanity. If we let these extremists, on both ends of the political scale win, we will lose the very method our nation’s founders gave us to keep our nation free and keep it moving to an even more “equal” society.
It is a sad commentary that it is in non-gay publications that the discussion is being conducted. Very few gay/lesbian publications have covered this, just as few have covered very well the issues brought on by the arrest of Senator Craig. And now that the blogs and websites on the Internet are taking over communication, such publications may soon become irrelevant.
